it could start closing even in a few hours but especially if you do that for many days in a row. and that would be more traumatic to the piercing than using a glass retainer. some glass/pyrex retainers are pretty inconspicuous- you should look into it. everyone’s body is different. its hard to tell whether it will close or not without trying
